The Elite

The Elite: Chapter 3

1‘Ronnie’s’ as Lina had called it, appeared to be a lodge on the outskirts of town with a famous café downstairs. The place was quite empty when we arrived, thankfully; that reduces the chances of running into whomever we tried so hard to shake earlier.

2Lina appeared to be more familiar with the place than Sebastian and myself, which made me curious as to which region he was from exactly, as he didn’t really appear to be a local. They ordered a dish and I asked for the same before sitting down together at a table.

3“So, Irene, are you from around here?” He asks, again practically reading my thoughts. “No, I’m from Region 6, also known as Techland.” I say. The kingdom wasn’t explicitly a caste system, but the further from region 1 you were, the less well off. Region 6 is right in the center of the divide between the wealthier and noble regions, and the less prosperous ones.

4“Really?” Sebastian says. “Then what brings you so far from home? You mentioned you were going to be preoccupied for a while, would that have anything to do with working out of the capital now?” He asked. He has surprisingly good memory, I only briefly mentioned that I was touring because I was going to be busy. “Sort of…” I say.

5I didn’t want to tell these two strangers that I’d been chosen for The Elite, partially because if they hadn’t seem me in the paper already, they probably didn’t care. Furthermore why go into personal details with people I’d definitely not see again. Even though a part of me was hoping I might.

6“What about you two? I assume you weren’t in town for a run.” I say with a smile. Sebastian returns my smile with one of his own, and I could feel my blush returning. “No.” he says. “We most definitely were not.”

7The food arrived and we ate silently for the most part, at least Sebastian and I did. Lina, on the other hand, filled any moment of brief quiet with chatter. They occasionally asked a question or two, and I did the same, but no one pressed for anything deep. When we finished, they went to sort out the bill, to which I said thanks, and I stepped outside for some air.

8I could see the palace in the distance from where I stood. Thank goodness. I didn’t want to waste the limited funds I had on a cab fare. And I didn’t want to wander around lost, as night was approaching and I needed to be back before midnight… It shouldn’t be too hard for me to find my way back from here.

9“There you are.” Sebastian says as he approaches. I hadn’t even heard him come out. Through our chat, I’d learned that he lives here in the capital, though I didn’t press for what exactly he does. Odd, seeing as how he didn’t look quite familiar with the place. I’d thought when he mentioned it. And I’d learned Lina was his cousin, which brought me more glee than I’d have liked, again I felt my face grow red.

10“I’m assuming you won’t share what it is you are thinking about.” He says.

11“No, I’m afraid not. But you catch on quick.” I say while stepping out of the light to get a better look at his face. His eyes never leave mine as I move, and again I feel heat continue to rise to my face.

12Suddenly his hand reaches for mine, and he raises it between us. “Well miss Irene. I do hope that whatever it is you’ve come to the capital for, you succeed.” He says.

13After he speaks there is a moment of silence; I attempt to still my now frantically beating heart. We were barely touching but the warmth from his hand quickly spread through me. “You and I, both.” I say after what feels like an eternity.

14He then raises my hand to his lips and gives it a gentle kiss. I was afraid he’d be able to feel my rapid pulse in my fingertips.

15“Am I interrupting something?” Lina says with a smile as she walks out. I startle at the sound of her voice and quickly pull my hand away from Sebastian. An unreadable expression crosses his face. I turn away from his gaze and face Lina; why start to fall for someone I know I won’t see again…

16“Come on, we should start heading back.” She says as she descends the stairs.

17As I attempt to hastily put some space between Sebastian and myself I trip right before the staircase.

18Before I manage to fall though, I feel Sebastian reach around and catch me.

19“You alright?” He asks.

20I could feel his lean arms and toned body pressed against mine as he steadied me.

21“Mmhmm.” I barely manage to choke out. “Thanks.” I say after finding my voice. He releases me and then hastily walks ahead. Was he upset I pulled my hand way earlier?

22He doesn’t look back at me, or close the distance between us as we circle the lodge, which reaffirms my thoughts he’s mad. I felt oddly pleased. When we are nearly through the gates he turns back and says. “Do you tend to be accident prone? That’s nearly the second time today you would have fallen.”

23His tone was light and joking, maybe I was overanalyzing his mood and he didn’t care at all that I had pulled away…“Believe me, today was just an exception. It’s been a long day.” I said with a smile that didn’t quite reach my eyes. Why did I want him to be mad… Why would he? I’m nothing special.

24“Well this is goodbye.” Lina says while turning to face me. “Though our time was short. It was nice to meet you, Irene.” She says. “The feeling is mutual.” I say. Earlier, Lina had mentioned she was only visiting. She’s from region three; which granted, isn’t too far, but not many people have the luxury of visiting here as they pleased.

25I still never managed to find out why they were running earlier… “I tend to get myself into trouble.” She says. I’m beginning to think that I mutter some of my thoughts aloud. “My cousin has always been the one to clean up after my messes.” She adds, looking off with a smile filled with nostalgia. “Should we cross paths again, I should hope not to drag you in again as well.” She says, turning back to me. I wasn’t sure what to say to that, so I smiled.

26“The cab is here.” Sebastian says, after coming back from hailing one. I take this chance to take one long last look at him. Memorizing the lines of his fine face. “We are in a bit of a rush. My apologies we won’t be able to see you off to wherever you need to go. Will you be alright?” He says while staring back at me just as intensely. “I’m fine. Thanks for the meal.” I say. He opens his mouth to say something, but closes it again and nods before walking off with Lina.

27I wait until their cab is out of sight before sprinting towards the direction of the palace. I look at my phone for the time. 10:42 p.m. I hope I make it in time…

28After over an hour of jogging, I make it back to the familiar gates I exited earlier. I was prepared to jump them, but when I gave them a push, they opened. I rushed passed them to the stairs I ignored earlier. I didn’t hesitate climbing them this time.

29When I reached the top of the stairs, I took a steadying breath. This is it. And with a shaky hand, I rang the bell.

  1. I guess from this chapter’s featured image that there’s a new guy coming!
I have a strange feeling that it’s not the last time we see of Sebastian and his cousin…But I shall find out 🙂

    1. Haha yay! I wasn’t sure how much to make them resemble one another since they are cousins 😅 I was worried they looked too different but you managed to guess right 😎

  2. OKAY MOVE OUT OF THE WAY IRENE! I’m falling in love with Seb myself, he’s so nice! The scene on the balcony was very cute. I have a feeling that she will meet him and Lina (glad that they are cousins lol) again sometime. And wow, what’s up with the header image… do I see a love triangle in the future???

    1. Thanks – I never tend to give my male sims long hair for some reason, so I experimented with him and was happy with the result~ As for your prediction, you’ll have to wait and see 😉

  3. Hidden Springs! I love that neighborhood. It’s so beautiful.

If the header and Standing On My Own is any indication, I think she might end up in a love triangle, so I’m trying not to get too invested in Seb though it’s hard not to. I’m thinking Seb and Lina might be royalty or something. They were running from their bodyguards when they literally bumped into Irene. Too much secrecy there. We’ll find out I guess.

    1. I wanted a new setting for this story since I’ve used all the default cities for all my other ones, so I went out of my way to download it and loved it! Also, without confirming or denying, I shall just say that I’m slowly becoming convinced you are sherlock holmes in disguise XD Again, thanks for reading!
