Sight Chapter 4: It’s A Date

8:00 a.m. | Goldenrod Ave.
“Can you guys hurry up? Your running is pathetic.” Otto says.

“He does remember he’s the one who dragged us here against our will, right?” Gus mutters to Cailean as they attempt to catch up.

“Yeah, yeah, just keep running. You know he’ll nag at us later if he catches us walking.” Cailean says.

“So, I’m thinking about inviting that chick Mai works with to the party tonight. I’m the only one without a date.” Gus says. “Don’t you think she’ll be taken aback by the random invitation?” Cailean asks. “I doubt it.” Gus replies.

“How do you plan on contacting her, Mai mentioned they both don’t work on Saturdays at dinner yesterday.” Cailean asks.

“Good point, I’m thinking if I swing by the diner, I’ll be able to snag her number from any of the other staff that have it, since Mai said she doesn’t. Worse comes to worst, I’ll ask the manager.” Gus says.

“You sound pretty determined considering you just met the chick.” Cailean says. “Yeah, but something about her was intriguing to say the least. She’s way different from the girls that normally hang around us. And I could sense that just from speaking to her for a few minutes. Otto seems to be long gone, I guess it’s safe for us to walk now.” Gus says whilst slowing his pace.

To this Cailean didn’t have a response. He knew Gus well, and knew that he didn’t really have the best record when it came to stable relationships. Probably because he didn’t start them for the right reasons. But rather than dampen the mood, he decides to hold off on his commentary until the situation calls for it.

8:30 a.m. | Goldenrod Garden
“There you guys are. Honestly, what kind of men are you? I was going at a slow pace and you guys still fell so far behind.” Otto says, oddly quietly.

“That’s my fault!” Gus yells back as he and Cailean draw nearer. “I told Cailean we could walk when you were out of sight since it didn’t appear to matter to you whether we were behind or not.” He adds.

“Keep your voice down!” Otto hisses still in a quiet tone. “There’s a girl sleeping over there.”

Cailean and Gus turn their heads simultaneously to get a look at whom Otto was referring to.

“No way!” Gus says, “It’s the girl from yesterday! Talk about a coincidence. How long has she been here?”

“How on earth am I supposed to know that, nimrod? She was already sleeping here well before I stopped to wait for your sorry asses.” Otto says “Can we continue with our run now?”

“Definitely not. This is fate; I’m going to go and talk to her.” Gus says. “It’d be rude to wake her up, man. Just swing by the diner later like you said you were and get her number so you can talk to her at a reasonable time and place.” Cailean says.

“There you are.” J.D. says, finally finding Aislyn after popping into every possible resting spot between the police station and her home in search of her. “What am I going to do with you?” He asks with a sigh, relieved she was alright. It was only a forty minute walk from the station, and even at Aislyn’s slow pace, J.D. knew it wouldn’t have taken this long for her to come back.

“What’s the big deal in waking her up? It’s not like she’s at home or something.” A voice says.

Well well well, what do we have here? J.D. thinks as he sits on the bench. He notices several men speaking in the distance. Looks like someone’s plucking up the courage to come talk to you. Tsk tsk tsk, look at the state you’re in.

“AISLYN!” He yells, in order to wake her up.

Her head snaps up at the sound and she turns to face him with an expression that is both startled and angry. “What the hell was that…” She begins to say but he cuts her off, “Hey now, don’t make it so obvious you can see me.” He says.

“What?… Why?” Aislyn asks. Not fully awake yet, it takes her some time to process his words.

“Well, why don’t you take a look over there. It sounds like you’ve got an admirer.” J.D. says, tilting his head in the direction of the men he saw earlier who had yet to notice Aislyn had awaken.

Aislyn turns their way and mumbles “Oh no…” A bit too loudly. The men stop their conversation to look at her. “While it appears they didn’t hear your earlier remarks, they definitely heard that.” J.D. says with a laugh. “I’ll excuse myself for now. See you at home.” And he disappears, leaving Aislyn alone.

“Ummm, morning.” Aislyn says awkwardly. “Aislyn, right?” The man she recognizes as Gus says. “Sorry did we wake you?” He asks.

“No, I got up myself.” She says while rising off the bench.

She looks over his shoulder to see his rather attractive acquaintances make no move to come nearer. As if reading her mind, Gus calls them over, “Cailean, Otto, come say hi.”

“I’m assuming you remember who I am.” Gus says as his friends join him. “Yeah, you’re Augustus, right?” Aislyn states, not as a question. “No need to be so formal, I said you could call me–” “Gus. Right.” She says, cutting him off. “Yeah.” Gus says with a grin. “These are my friends, Otto and Cailean.” He adds pointing to the shirtless guy and the blond in turn.

“Nice to meet you.” Aislyn says while looking at both of them; making an extra effort to not shamelessly glance at Otto’s defined abs.

“Listen… I know it’s kind of out of nowhere…” Gus begins. “But there’s this party later at The Warehouse and I don’t know if you already had plans or not to go… but I’d like it if you’d come…”

Wow. Is this guy really putting me on the spot by asking me out with his friends in tow?
Aislyn thinks.

As she deliberates agreeing to Gus’s invitation, she becomes aware of the blond, Cailean, staring at her quite intensely. She turns slightly to meet his gaze and they share a moment of eye contact before both breaking away.

“It doesn’t have to be a date if you aren’t comfortable with that… Unless you are, then…” Gus was continuing to speak and Aislyn felt slightly guilty for tuning out. “Sure.” She says, cutting him off yet again.

“Awesome, so it’s a date then?” Gus asks. “I guess.” She replies.

“Great, should I pick you up? Or–” Gus begins to ask. “No. I’ll meet you there.” Aislyn says, cutting him off for a third time. At this point she was eager to be left alone. Despite being on a run, she found Gus and his friends to be extremely attractive, and she began feeling a tad self conscious being groggy from her bench nap. Saying whatever to get them to leave the quickest was her priority. “You sure are something.” Gus says, “We’re planning to meet up at 9:30, so I guess I’ll see you there, then.” Gus says taking off. “See ya.” Otto says trailing after him. “Bye.” Aislyn replies.

Cailean pauses before following, “It was nice meeting you.” He says before taking off after his friends. “You too.” Aislyn says long after he’s out of sight.

9:47 a.m. | Aislyn’s House
After waiting a few minutes to make sure Gus and his friends were long gone, Aislyn sets off towards her house.

J.D. didn’t appear to be back yet and all that walking had made her quite hungry.

Settling for something simple to quiet her stomach, Aislyn turns on the news.

TV Announcer: The police are still in search of the man who evaded capture last night after fleeing the scene of a crime. The confrontation resulted in the cops opening fire in attempts to subdue him; however, he was still able to escape. Whether or not he was working alone is unclear, but he is considered armed and dangerous. If you have any tips please call…

Aislyn shuts off the TV; the last thing she wanted to hear was bad news.

Instead, she began to think about her plans for later. She couldn’t even recall the last time she’d gone out and had a semblance of a normal social life. Even though she said yes just to get rid of Gus, whom she was learning was overly persistent, a part of her was looking forward to going out later.

6:30 p.m. | Aislyn’s Room
After a long nap and another shower, this time in which she washed her hair, Aislyn begins applying makeup; something she hadn’t done with effort for a long time.

She had just finished lining her eyes, when she feels that familiar rush of heat on her back and sees J.D. appear on her bed through the mirror. “Where’d you venture off to?” She asks. “You said you’d be home.”

“Well, I got jealous after seeing that guy in the park make his way over to ask you out, so I went to hang with some rather lovely female ghosts downtown.” J.D. replies with a chuckle. “Poor guy didn’t know what he was getting into. How’d you let him down? I left before I could hear the juicy aftermath.” He adds with a grin.

“As a matter of fact, I said yes.” Aislyn says defiantly. “Oh really?” J.D. says with a tone of curiosity. “Laugh all you want, but I actually thought it might be… fun to go out for a change.” Aislyn says.

“Do you think I’m that heartless?” J.D. asks with faux sadness. “If anything, I’m glad you agreed. The fact that I’m the only one you’ve been spending most of your time with isn’t a good thing.”

“I’m having second thoughts now… He and his friends look like the flashy types, and I want to blend in as much as possible.” Aislyn says. “Relax, I’ll help you out.” J.D. says. Aislyn wanted to make a quip about J.D. and ask what he could possibly know about fashion or parties, but she decides not to. She was actually thankful he was here and thankful he wasn’t teasing her. “Thanks…” She says. “Of course.” He responds.

7:49 p.m.
“How about this one?” Aislyn asks. “It’s fine.” J.D. responds. “Just like all the other outfits you tried on were fine.”

“Fine isn’t good enough.” Aislyn responds. “You are stressing unnecessarily, Sunshine.” J.D. says. “It doesn’t matter how you look, so long as you have a nice time.”

“I know.” Aislyn says, walking over to the nightstand to put her glasses back on.

“I just want everything to be perfect.”

“Hardly anything ever is. You just have to do what you can and see how it goes. If what you wear plays that big a role in whether you have a nice time with that dude and his friends, then you shouldn’t even be hanging with people like them in the first place.” J.D. says.

“Yeah… you’re right.”

“When am I not?” J.D. teases, “Now go have fun and tell me all about it when you get back.” Feeling better after her frantic trial of outfits, Aislyn nods, quickly puts her hair into an updo, and heads out.

9:33 p.m. | The Warehouse
“You were that unwilling to show up to this thing without a date that you asked out that craz–” “Watch it, Kim.” Cailean says, cutting her off before she could say something unkind about Aislyn. “Yeah, what’s it matter to you whom I choose to spend my time with?” Gus adds. “Whatever.” Kimberly says.

“There she is.” Gus says as Aislyn approaches.

“Hey.” Aislyn says. “I didn’t think you’d be waiting outside like this. Were you here long?” She asks. “Yes.” Kimberly snaps. “Don’t mind her, we just got here ourselves.” Cailean says.

“I guess some introductions are in order.” Gus says. “I’m assuming you know Mai from work and remember Cailean from this morning. The others are Chad and Kimberly.”

“It’s nice to see you outside the diner for a change.” Mai says. “Nice to meet you.” Chad chimes in on her right.

“Yeah, the feeling’s mutual.” Aislyn says. “Well, now that you’re here, I guess we should head inside.” Gus declares as he turns to lead the group in.

Aislyn hesitates while the others flow into the crowd and are greeted by blaring music. Here goes nothing. She thinks as she takes a breath and takes a step towards the door.

Thanks for reading! So this chapter was slightly lackluster in terms of plot, but rest assured next week is when the action really picks up. I have a clear idea of where I want to take the story, but I’m still experimenting with the writing style so it’s taking me a tad longer to get there. Feel free to let me know what you thought and take care~
xoxo Amy

  1. Ahh, I like JD. He’s a pretty supportive friend- and hmm, was that real jealousy there? Or was he joking? 🤔
“They share a moment of eye contact before both breaking away.” Ooooooh! The Caliean-Aislyn ship is about to leave the port!
I wonder how she’s gonna cope in the party. I really hope Gus won’t do anything stupid.
Nice chapter! I’m liking the writing style 🙂

  2. Oh, each chapter I am loving this story more and more!! ❤
JD is hilarious! I think he's my favorite character so far 😁 I think he might have feelings for Aislyn, but considering he's a ghost he believes he can't act on them, so he supresses said feelings so well that even he doesn't know they're there? I'm not sure if that even made sense lol!!
Buuut there's also this Cailean dude… silent and knightly. I believe he'll show what he's made of when the time is right. I also like this one… oh, the drama is about to start and I'm loving it!! ❤ ❤

Also, I have to ask: where did you find that adorable skirt (and heels)? I spent like five minutes admiring that outfit! 😍

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha that made perfect sense, I get exactly what you mean! As for whether or not that is the case… only time will tell 😉 As for the outfit, it’s actually categorized as a dress so the sweater top and skirt come together. I’m not sure exactly where it came from because I installed some pre-made sims and they came with their own outfits (shoes included) so if I can pinpoint which sim it was that came with it, I’ll send you the link! 🙂

  3. Ooooh, interesting… JD seems cool but I can’t tell if he’s either jealous or teasing her. But he’s a ghost, so it would definitely be awkward hugging air, hehe. I quite like Cailean! Is he a potential love interest?
Hmm… I don’t really like Kim as she’s quite rude about Aislyn. Hopefully her personality improves!
    Great chapter ❤️

    1. Thank you! ❤ Hehe, as for your first comment, I shall let you see as time unfolds~ Yeah, Kim isn't the nicest of people, and that'll definitely come up more in future chapters. As for Cailean I am *cough* not so subtly *cough* pushing him (as evident in the cover photo) as a potential love interest, but I want to evolve their relationship over time, instead of making them into each other right off the bat – so long story short: yes he is XD

    1. Haha he is an exercise buff so part of it was that and part of it was me shamelessly showing off how realistic they looked XD lol The next chapter will help shape the direction the plot is heading~ thanks for reading! 🙂

      1. Lol. It’s incredibly realistic! For sure. But I reacted to him the same way I probably would a guy who’s shirtless for no apparent reason IRL. “Dude, put a frickin shirt on.”

And I blush and look away as I mutter under my breath, “Your abs are way too distracting.”

I feel bad coz I went through the chapter barely comprehending anything. Sorry my comments are bleh…

        Liked by 1 person

      2. I’d probably react the same way XD Haha, don’t worry about it~ Was there something specific on my part in terms of writing that made you feel that way? Like I said I’m still working on nailing the voice

      3. None that I can think of. 🙂 Your writing is fine. I just get too easily distracted in general. Simlit is a visual medium after all. So yeah… Images can either add to or take away from the narrative. In Otto’s case, it kind of took away from the read coz in my mind, there really was no rhyme or reason as to why he was walking around outdoors without a shirt on. It took me out of the immersion. (In the Philippines, it’s illegal in some places to do that, because really… No one needs to see that pot belly, random shirtless stranger on the street.)

Waaaa! Am I being mean? I’m sorry… I do love the way the story and characters are developing. But yeah. Oh and yes… It’s a challenge to keep up with who’s who, because there are a lot of characters to keep track of. Especially since you show them in group settings a lot. I know and trust there’ll be more depth to them as the story develops, so I’m really looking forward to reading more!

      4. Ahh I see, that’s really interesting. Part of the reason why I included it, aside from it looking nice XD, is because here in the US it’s kind of the norm for some male joggers run around shirtless – even really old men do it, lol. Wish we had some of those laws here, haha. No, you weren’t being mean at all! I’m asking because as the write I know it’s easy for the story to flow and make perfect sense to me, but I wasn’t sure if it was as crystal for everyone else. I’m trying to not write first person but I still want some thoughts of the characters to be shown so I’ve been writing in a third person limited point of view and then using the “—” markings to show when I’ve switched to another characters thoughts, but I’ve also been using those markings to show progression of time while staying in the same person’s thoughts so I see how it can be confusing. I’m hoping that explanation made sense, hehe~ And I didn’t want to just post a screenshot of each face and say here is ‘so and so’ because I felt like that’d take away from the story… hmm maybe I should’ve made another guide like I did for the Elite to help keep everyone sorted. Maybe I’ll do that since there are a lot more characters I plan on bringing in, lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! ❤

  4. Aislyn is about the cutest thing ever. 🙂 I’m digging her with Caliean because it seems like they have a connection. As for JD, I really, really like him, too, and wonder how he really feels about Aislyn.

    1. Hehe, I’m glad you think so; I plan on bringing Cailean to the forefront of the story so I’m glad everyone seems to like him (and Aislyn) so far… as for JD, he’s rather complicated but you’ll get to know all about that at a later time~ thanks for reading 🙂

  5. Ah, I’m so nervous for this party! Why am I nervous for Aislyn? I have no clue besides the fact that she just seems like she doesn’t go out much to parties and I’m afraid something unfortunate will happen. I love JD’s character. He seems like a really good friend to have around, even though he ditched Aislyn after they found Jake’s mom. I have a feeling that JD is going to pop in on the party just to check on her.
Quick question, what settings do you play your games on and does it lag your game anymore than if you had all your settings basically on low? I’m curious because I want to take better pictures but I also don’t want to be trying to play my game for an hour for something that could take like 5 minutes normally.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha I understand the nervousness, Aislyn is definitely a fish out of water in this particular situation. JD is always one extreme or the other – overly concerned or indifferent, lol, in this particular situation you’ll have to wait and see 😉

Funny you should ask that, because after I re-installed the game (out of fear of re-killing my computer) I’ve left everything on the defaults and attempted to sneak some extra lighting in to get decent quality pics. [So everything is on Medium with Reflection quality on ‘mirrors only’, edge smoothing off and high detail lots set to 2] And as I’ve installed barely any CC the load time for the game startup as well as the gameplay has been relatively smooth and quick. I’ve never played the game with the settings below that so I’m not sure how it compares speed-wise to if it was set to low, BUT for this recent chapter (Chapter 10) I’ve changed the settings for the sims, textures, and overall visual effects to high with the lots up to 4 (? I don’t remember the number) because the background being out of focus/potato quality while I took pics bothered me. And I’ve noticed the game occasionally lags (2-3 times every hour or so) just with those changes and I have to wait the freezing out for a minute or two. I did notice a difference in the pics though so I’m debating keeping it or changing it back.
Wow this was quite lengthy, but I hope it helped! 🙂

      1. ALSO I noticed closing all other apps/internet tabs I have open before I try to run the game decreased the loading time exponentially. I also only have one expansion pack installed atm it takes on avg 10-15 mins to go from the launcher to the saved game file and changing those game settings didn’t really change the loading/gameplay time (at least for me 🙂 )

  6. Not really liking Gus for some reason – he’s shifty. I really identify with Aislyn here, though. Parties never were my thing, and when I went it was always like ‘Here goes nothing!’ haha 😀

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Haha he didn’t give the best first impression, but I promise there is more to him than meets the eye 😉 I’m the same as well so I was drawing from experience there, lol, but you’ll see later Aislyn wasn’t always like that 🙂 Thanks for reading!

  7. Well, I’m starting a J.D. fanclub. I was so disgruntled when she accepted Gus’ invitation! That guy rubs me the wrong way… but at least I’m happy she is going out and they seem to be treating her relatively nicely (looking at you, Kimberly). But that thing on the news? What’s that about! Oh I have about 500 fan theories already. IS J.D. REALLY MOONLIGHTING AT A GHOST BANK ROBBER? I hope not… that might hinder recruitment for the fanclub… Anyhow, I didn’t think this chapter was lackluster at all! I love Aislyn and J.D.’s interactions so much, I am such a sucker for those quirky relationships. I mean, she’s the only one who can see him (well, who isn’t dead…) so he sort of depends on her in that way, and she seems to trust him and they have such a cute friendship. Sorry, you’re probably really tired of hearing me gush LOL on to the next chap!

    1. Yay, haha glad you like him. I’m also particularly fond of him – idk if that sounds weird of me to say, but it’s true 🤷‍♀️ I had a feeling Gus would continue to irk ya, I’m curious as to whether or not your thoughts of him will change down the line~ ☺️ Kim is another story entirely, lol. I’m glad you caught the news bit, it’ll be pretty relevant the next few chapters. That’s an interesting theory, and one I can refute without guilt – so for the time being until you know J.D’s real story, recruit away 😂 Thanks, they are my favorite things to write! 😊 What they’ve got is definitely not a normal friendship and they both rely on each other a lot. I’m not tired at all! I’m really enjoying reading your thoughts~ thanks for reading and lifting my spirits with such kind words 😆💖

  8. that would be so embarrassing…

waking up like that having people looking at you. it was a good thing JD fond her and told her because I think Gus would have woke her up.

you did the runny pictures well. I find doing them a little finicky as they look in the wrong direction that you want them too and I’ve never been able to find any decent poses of sims running.

I surprised she didn’t think about taking JD to the party too. to have the inside scoop to what people are talking about while you not there. would be a nice little advantage

    just been reading the comments…

it’s funny the boys think JD is cool and the girls seem to love him :)) either way, his is definitely stealing your story so far Amy 🙂

    1. It would indeed, I’m afraid to fall asleep in public places out of fear or mumbling something or snoring and having people stare 😆 J.D. showed up at the right time so Aislyn wouldn’t have to worry about that, hehe~
Thanks! I had to take several because they were often not looking where I wanted them to. I couldn’t find any running poses either which is why I just took them during the action 😄
That’s actually a smart idea! Aislyn wanted to have an escape from her ability though, that’s why she didn’t ask J.D. to tag along.
Haha that’s an interesting observation, as far as I can tell the majority of my readers are/have been female. I’m glad he’s managed to win everyone over, he has a special place in my heart 😊
      Thanks for reading Darren!

did you have any problems yesterday?

    1. Hey Darren! I was actually quite busy yesterday (which is why I responded to your comment quite late) and I used the WordPress app on my phone so if there was any issues with the site, I wouldn’t know, sorry 😅 Hope it’s working properly now!
