The next morning I woke up, showered, and got dressed in my attire to meet with the king. I filled Kala in on what Riley told me the night before as I got ready.
“I don’t think you’re in trouble…” She began. “If anything, you’ve probably done something right.” She adds.
“I hope so.” I say as I put the finishing touches on my makeup.
I make my way downstairs and notice Samuel, Kyle, Simon and Ricky – the only member I have yet to be really acquainted with – in the living room watching TV. “Morning guys.” I say as I approach them.
“Morning Irene.” Samuel says. “Are you nervous? Word spread that you are meeting with the king this morning.”
“Kind of.” I said. I wasn’t sure how the others would take the news – would they be jealous? Would they pity me? To my surprise, they were seemingly nonchalant about it.
“Don’t be.” Says Simon. “You look great by the way.” “Thanks.” I said.
As I turned to smile at him, thankful that speaking with the boys was putting my nerves at ease – the sound of the TV in the background changed. “Hey look.” Samuel says. “It’s breaking news.”
As my eyes went to the screen, I remembered Riley mentioning that the king and queen were giving a surprise address before we were supposed to go to them. That bit of news didn’t appear to get around and I smiled to myself.
“Hmm… Royal family announces surprise address.” Kyle says, reading the headline. “What do you suppose it could be about?” He adds. “Well I suppose we’ll find out momentarily, won’t we?” Simon says (a/n: lol) as all our attention goes to the screen…
KING STEFANO: Good morning all. I’m sure most of you are taken aback by my sudden appearance, but my queen and I felt it was time to make some changes. As you know – we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know the Elite whom have come from all over our great nation to represent all of you. And while speaking with them, I’ve learned that working as hard as we do will not mean as much if we are not as forthcoming about all we plan to do.
KING STEFANO: Growing up in the spotlight as I have made me want to protect my children from the harshness and hardships I’ve endured, and Queen Emilia felt the same. We now realize that the time has come for you to be acquainted with our children as you are with us, so that it is clear that we are not hiding – but doing everything we can for our country, just away from prying eyes. Speaking with the Elite, some in particular has opened my eyes to this and without further ado I’d like to introduce my son, Stefano II, and daughter, Genevieve.
As the doors behind the king and queen opened – I let out a gasp. “Are you ok?” Samuel asks as he turns to me. I was most certainly not ok. The headline on the TV had changed; it now said: PRINCE’S FACE REVEALED… except the face I saw before me, though dressed in a uniform and crown…
… was unmistakably Sebastian’s.
I pressed my eyes shut – surely I am seeing things.
When I reopened them and turned back to the screen, to my horror, Princess Genevieve who stepped out behind him was his sister ‘Gen’. This can’t be.
PRINCE STEFANO II: Hello, all. It’s a pleasure to finally stand before you. I can assure you things will be different around here, and this upcoming competition will be the forefront of the series of changes we hope to bring to our great nation. As I’m sure you are well aware…
As ‘the prince’ made his speech – his voice was the final nail in the coffin. There was no doubt about it… That was the voice I’d spent hours speaking to and getting to know, the voice that made my heart race when it said my name, the voice that I dreamt about… A million emotions came over me at once – the most prominent ones being anger, and humiliation, was he toying with me? I couldn’t listen anymore, every word more he spoke felt like a physical blow bringing me more and more pain. “Excuse me…” I said to the boys, who began speaking to one another about how cute the princess was. I rushed away – blinking back tears.
When I reached the stairs, I could hear the voices of Kala, Emily, Kori, and even Skyler coming down to watch the news.
As I was seconds away from a breakdown I wanted to avoid them – a thought popped into my head, and I quickly turned away from the stairs and ran towards the flight that led to the boys’ rooms.
Only one person crossed my mind and I bee-lined towards his room from the directions he told me before. It wasn’t hard to find him, and I knocked on his door several times before he came and opened it.
Riley opened the door with a smile, “I was just about to come and get you…” he began, but stopped once he saw the expression I had on my face. “Are you alright?” he asked. I shook my head.
He opened his arms and I ran straight into them, hoping they’d bring the comfort I desperately needed at this moment. “Don’t worry, it’ll be alright. I’m here.” He said as I began to let loose the tears I was holding back.
… “I’m here.”
Thanks for reading! Despite it being a tad shorter than usual, this was definitely one of my favorite chapters to write, though those news headlines took forever, lol. What did you think of that reveal? I tried not to drop too many hints, but a certain someone still managed to guess correctly 😉 I’ve also given my site a little update~ all the pages have little bits of added info if you want to check them out! Feel free to let me know what you think both of the chapter and the new layout 🙂 Take care~
p.s I nearly forgot! I’ve been nominated for the Memory Lane Challenge by the lovely loladiamond01~ I plan to complete it soon 😀
